The first time I ever had this honey smoked chicken recipe was when my Aunt Yuki made it for us when we were little and I’ve loved it ever since.

While the honey smoked chicken was initially done in the oven it is so much better on the Big Green Egg. When cooked on the BGE you will get a hint of that delicious smoke flavor along with it!

How to Prepare Honey Smoked Chicken?

Honey Smoked Chicken Butter

While you can make the marinade for the honey smoked chicken on the Big Green Egg it is just as easy to make it on the stove top in a cast iron skillet then transfer it to the egg, which is what I’ll be doing here as it is currently winter here in Michigan.

Honey Smoked Chicken Butter In Skillet

To prepare the honey smoked chicken start out by melting the butter in a cast irons skillet.

Continue basting the chicken with the sauce until they are all completely covered. Once complete it is time to get them on the Big Green Egg to be smoked.

How to Cook Honey Smoked Chicken on the Big Green Egg?

Honey Smoked Chicken Finished

This delicious honey smoked chicken is cooked on the Big Green Egg four about an hour. Get the BGE dialed into 350 degrees and ready for an indirect cook. The plate setter / conv”egg”tor should be placed in the BGE with the feet facing up.

When cooking the honey smoked chicken, simply baste it every 15 minutes. The chicken can be pulled when it reaches a safe internal temperature, which according to the USDA is 165 degrees.

Once the chicken has hit the minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees it is ready to be pulled off the Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe and served.

While the chicken alone is excellent as is, it is also great served on top of rice in which you can use the remaining marinade as a delicious sauce on the chicken.

A favorite site with this recipe would also be garlic broccoli or green beans with chicken bouillon.

Notes

Honey Smoked Chicken is delicious as it but if you enjoy rice, it is also great served over freshly cooked white rice. The remaining sauce in the pan is also excellent when used as a gravy over the rice.
