As a hardworking college student, I have learned the McDonald’s way at a young age, so why not cook up some sausage egg muffins on the Blackstone Griddle?! The one thing that I do differently is add the words zesty and smashed at the beginning of sausage egg muffins.

This recipe can be cooked with regular sausage but anyone who knows me knows I love a little heat in my food. This is why I use Bob Evan’s Zesty Hot Sausage whenever I cook my sausage egg muffins!

If you have never tried these, they are even better on the Blackstone. I highly recommend them, and if you do not like eggs, then just sausage muffins are also awesome!

How to Make Smashed Sausage Egg Muffins on the Blackstone

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Smash The Sausage With Parchment Paper

With the Blackstone Griddle heat on med, med-high, add a couple of ounces of sausage and smash it on the Blackstone with Parchment Paper.

Parchment paper will keep the burger press nice and clean and also prevent the sausage from sticking to it.

While the sausage patty is cooking, it is time to prep for the egg (flip the sausage patty as needed).

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Add Oil To The Egg Ring

The first thing you need to do is create a seal between the egg ring and the Blackstone. To do this, I like to add a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil inside the egg ring.

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Slide The Egg Ring Around To Create A Seal

From here, I then slide it around the griddle in a circular motion. This helps create a seal all the way around the egg ring to the Blackstone.

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Add The Egg To The Egg Ring

Now that there is a good seal between the Blackstone and the egg ring, the next step is to simply add the egg. Be careful not to get any shells in it when cracking the egg.

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Break The Yolk

There is one more step when it comes to making the perfect “round” egg, as McDonald’s calls it, and that is to break the egg yolk.

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Place The Muffins Face Down On The Blackstone

While the sausage and eggs are both cooking, I like to get the muffin nice warm and toasty. To do this I prefer to either melt a little butter or spread some more extra virgin olive oil and place them face down on the griddle.

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Remove The Egg From The Egg Ring And Flip It

While messing around getting the muffin nice and toasty it is usually enough time to jump right back to the egg and give it a flip.

Prior to removing the egg ring, I like to take a spatula or butter knife and cut around the egg just to ensure it does not stick to the egg ring.

Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin - Assemble The Zesty Sausage Egg Muffin

That is basically all there is to it. From here, you just assemble it starting with the cheese on the bottom, followed by the sausage and then the egg.

I hope you enjoy this delicious McDonald’s style Zesty Smashed Sausage Egg Muffin from the Blackstone!

Total Time: 8 minutes

As a hardworking college student, I have learned the McDonald's way at a young age, so why not cook up some sausage egg muffins on the Blackstone Griddle?! The one thing that I do differently is add the words zesty and smashed at the beginning of sausage egg muffins.

This recipe can be cooked with regular sausage but anyone who knows me knows I love a little heat in my food. This is why I use Bob Evan's Zesty Hot Sausage whenever I cook my sausage egg muffins!

If you have never tried these, they are even better on the Blackstone. I highly recommend them, and if you do not like eggs, then just sausage muffins are also awesome!

Ingredients

  • Bacon / Burger Press
  • Egg Rings
  • Parchment Paper, this prevents the sausage from sticking to the press
  • Muffins
  • Eggs
  • Bob Evan’s Zesty Hot Sausage, or regular if you don’t like spicy food
  • American Cheese, sliced
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Start out by making 2 ounce sausage balls similiar to how you would for a thin pattied smash burger. With the Blackstone on med, med-high heat, place the sausage ball on the Blackstone. Cover it with parchment paper and then smash it down to the griddle and hold it for a good 6-8 seconds. Remove the parchment paper and burger smasher and set a side.
  2. While the sausage continues to cook, place a little oil in the egg ring and slide it in a circular motion on the Blackstone to create a seal between the egg ring and the griddle.
  3. Carefully crack the egg into the ring being careful not to get any shell in it. Immediately break the yolk.
  4. Remember to flip the sausage as needed so it doesn't burn.
  5. Next to the eggs and sausage either melt some butter or put a thin layer of extra virgin olive oil on the Blackstone. Place the muffin face down to allow it to warm up and get nice and toasty.
  6. Once complete, the egg should be ready to remove from the egg ring and be flipped.
  7. Once everything is cooked, you can assemble the Zesty Smashed Sausage and Egg Muffin.
  8. To do this, start out with the bottom of the muffin. Add the cheese followed by the sausage and then the egg. Top it off with the top of the muffin and enjoy!

Notes

If you don't like spicy sausage I recommend using Bob Evans regular sausage.
